Chisamba, who has been at large since the incident, was arrested on Friday, July 28, 2023.

According to Lilongwe Police Publicist, Inspector Hastings Chigalu, the suspect, who live with his first wife at Dembo Village in T/A Kalumbu, previously, went to the victim’s house where, in her absence, he collected five bags of maize, one of Soya beans, and sold them without consent.

Noticing what Chisamba did, the deceased reported the matter to Village Headman Chiowa where the issue was amicably solved.

However, on June 15, 2023 the suspect went back to his second wife's house, this time with five hired motorcycle taxi operators and demanded to take more bags of farm produce.

“This times around the wife stood her grounds denying the husband from taking the produce and a fight broke between the two,” Chigalu said.

The suspect severely assaulted the wife and later tied her with a piece of cloth.

This action gave the suspect enough freedom to collect ten bags of maize, five of groundnuts and two of Soya beans.

Then the suspect locked up his wife in the bedroom before leaving the scene.

The publicist explained that a day later (June 16, 2023), the deceased's father became suspicious when his daughter was not coming out of her house and decided to knock at the door where he got no answer despite several attempts.

The father was prompted to force entry into the house and this is when he discovered his daughter tied and in none responsive state.

Postmortem by Nathenje Health Centre medical personnel, who accompanied police detectives to the scene, revealed that death was due to internal injury caused by a blunt object that the deceased was hit with on the stomach resulting in internal bleeding.

Chisamba who hails from Salima Village, T/A Mazengera, Lilongwe, will answer a case of murder.
