Boy 4, drowns in water reservoir in Lilongwe
LILONGWE: Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at around 12:00 hours a boy identified as Mayamiko Julius drowned in a water reservoir at Hongyuan Industries factory located around Chitipi Trading Centre in Lilongwe District.
Mayamiko's (deceased) stepfather works with Hongyuan Industries as a labourer and is accommodated within the factory premises.
On this fateful day, Mayamiko was playing alone near the reservoir located within the compound alone.
The father noticed that the child was missing and started searching for him.
It was when he decided to look into the reservoir that he discovered the boy floating.
People rushed Mayamiko to Chitedze Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Postmortem at the health facility revealed that death was due to suffocation.
The Circuit Camera Television (CCTV) footage at the scene of the incident confirmed that the child was playing around the water reservoir where he lost balance and fell in.
The boy’s parents hail from Nakuwawa Village, Traditional Authority Njewa in Lilongwe District.
